ADSL2+ is capable of doubling the performance of basic ADSL connection by enhancing data transfer speeds up to a possible rate of 24Mbps (download) and 1Mbps (Upload). ADSL2+ is developed to deliver a much faster Broadband service than both ADSL and ADSL MAX.
Availability of ADLS 2+ is currently limited as unlike ADSL & ADSL MAX, ADSL 2+ requires new DSLAM equipment in the local telephone exchanges. The number of local exchanges being ADSL2+ enabled is increasing and the service is also available from a number of UK ISPs.
Like other DSL technology, ADSL2+ also runs on the copper wire network used primarily for landline phones. ADSL2+ is an extension of the current ADSL Broadband offering and is a new development that has been designed to improve the performance of Broadband by dramatically enhancing bandwidth.
The speed of ADSL2+ is therefore also affected by the distance from the local telephone exchange. However, the speed deteriorates at a quicker rate within a shorter distance than ADSL.
As with ADSL Max, the speed of ADSL2+ is rate adaptive and therefore will vary to deliver the maximum speed possible.
